The Scoop on Pilates.

Designed by German-born Joseph Pilates in the early part of the 20th century, Pilates is a low-impact workout that increases core strength, stability and flexibility, building long, toned, strong muscles without bulk. It’s gentle and low-impact yet challenging, creating an evenly conditioned body that leaves you feeling taller, stronger, more balanced and less prone to injury.

Pilates can be practiced in many ways, and may involve special props and equipment, or nothing more than your own body. At our Pilates Mat and Pilates Barre classes, we welcome practitioners of all levels. At your first class, let the instructor know you are new, and alert him or her of any health concerns or contraindications you may have. Wear comfortable, close-fitting clothing that affords a wide range of movement and allows the instructor to check for proper alignment; a fitted tee-shirt and stretchy gym pants are great. Bottled water and a towel can be helpful. Our instructors will assist you in finding the proper alignment and execution of each movement, ensuring you’re protected from injury and working within your body’s own parameters, thus helping you get the most out of your workout.
