Wear Orange Weekend- June 2-4 2023
Wear Orange is dedicated to honoring the lives of people in the United States affected by gun violence and elevating the voices of those demanding an end to this crisis. Wear Orange symbolizes the value of each person’s life and we wear it to honor those killed and wounded by gun violence, and to call for meaningful change.
Wear Orange began when teenagers in Chicago wanted to honor their friend, Hadiya Pendleton, after she was shot and killed on a playground just weeks after marching in President Obama’s second inaugural parade. Today, Wear Orange honors Hadiya and the more than 120 people shot and killed every day in the United States, as well as the hundreds more who are wounded. As incidences of gun violence have grown, so too has the movement to stop it. Together we can build a future free from gun violence.
Wear Orange is an opportunity to demonstrate our collective power as members of the gun violence prevention movement, bringing together a broad spectrum of organizations, brands, and influencers working in different ways to curb gun violence.
Hundreds of influencers, corporate partners, non-profit partners, landmarks, and elected officials participated in National Gun Violence Awareness Day and Wear Orange Weekend on June 1-4, 2023.
This June 1-4, we invite everyone to #WearOrange and attend events leading up to and throughout Wear Orange Weekend. Together, we will remember the millions of lives taken or changed by gun violence and demand action in their honor.
