Recipe: Cough-free, Naturally
If the sniffling we’ve been hearing here and there around town is any indication, cold season is officially here. There may never be a cure for the common cold, but there are plenty of natural methods for dealing with symptoms—some which may even shorten a cold’s duration.
For many, a tried-and-true soother for a pesky cough is to boil fresh ginger with lemon and honey, then strain the mixture and drink the sweet golden infusion. But the following natural recipe for a cough-soothing tea from Whole Living magazine goes one step further, adding herbs to ease chest congestion. Besides being free of dyes and drowsiness-inducing compounds, we love that this easy tonic uses simple ingredients we’re likely to always have on hand.
Cough-Control Tea Recipe:
Pour hot water over 2 teaspoons organic lemon rinds, 1 teaspoon sage, and a half-teaspoon thyme. (Dried or fresh herbs can be used.)
Cover and steep for 15 minutes.
Strain tea, then add juice of half a lemon and 1 tablespoon honey.
Drink two to three cups daily for cough relief.
